Meghan's Something Blue: The Duchess Reveals Wedding Surprise for Harry in 'Queen of the World'

Good afternoon, are you all having a nice weekend?

I'm popping in today to chat about Meghan's interview for Tuesday's upcoming documentary 'Queen of the World'. Ahead of the broadcast on ITV, videos and quotes from Meghan's segment were released for the Sunday papers. As previously reported, Meghan is reunited with her beautiful Givenchy wedding gown and veil for the first time since the wedding.

The two-part series covers,"The Queen and her role as a figure on the global stage. Queen of the World will also show how Her Majesty aims to pass on the monarchy to younger members of the Royal Family as they continue to build the Commonwealth connection.". Meghan looks back on her "magical" wedding day. The Duchess followed the tradition of having "something blue". "Somewhere in here there’s a piece of blue fabric that’s stitched inside - it was my something blue. It’s fabric from the dress that I wore on our first date."

The news has prompted a look back into Meghan's wardrobe for 'the blue dress'.

The Commonwealth and Harry's new role as Youth Ambassador were important factors Meghan considered during her first meetings with Clare Waight Keller. Her decision to incorporate the flora from 53 countries was a special surprise for Harry on the day. "It was important for me, especially now being a part of the Royal Family, to have all 53 of the Commonwealth countries incorporated, and I knew that it would be a fun surprise as well for my now husband, who didn’t know, and he was really over the moon to find out that I would make this choice for our day together. And I think the other members of the family had a similar reaction, and just appreciation for the fact that we understand how important this is for us and the role that we play, and the work that we’re going to continue to do within the Commonwealth countries." Buckingham Palace and Kensington Palace shared the video below.

Meghan added: "You know, it’s such an exciting time for us, especially with Harry’s role as Youth Ambassador for the Commonwealth and the travel that we intend to do, to do work specifically in all those different territories. Which is why it was so important to have some sort of example of that present with us on the day, 53 countries as well, my goodness, It’ll keep us busy."

Meghan also spoke about the process of collaborating with the hugely talented Clare Waight Keller. "We had two or three meetings talking about sketches and different ideas of how this could really come to life. We knew we wanted it to be very delicate, but then after that point, I just said I trust her implicitly with what she did, and I didn’t see it really until the morning of, so this is my first time seeing the veil like this."

The documentary reveals how the Commonwealth has been a central focus and passion throughout Her Majesty’s life. The Queen has been Head of the Commonwealth since 1952. It seems a very fitting time to air it - looking back over Her Majesty's lifetime of service following the historic Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting earlier this year. The timing perfectly coincides with Harry and Meghan's upcoming Commonwealth tour - marking the beginning of their lifetime of service as a couple.

It airs on ITV on Tuesday at 9.15 pm and on HBO on 1 October at 8 pm.

We'll see Harry and Meghan tomorrow for the Coach Core Awards.
